M. Furius L.f. Philus, 120 BC. Denarius (Subaeratus, 18 mm, 3.73 g, 10 h), a contemporary plated imitation from an irregular mint. M•FOVRI•L•F Laureate head of Janus. Rev. ROMA / PHLI Roma standing front, head to left, holding scepter in her left hand and placing wreath with her right on trophy of Gallic arms flanked by carnyx with shield on each side. Cf. Babelon (Furia) 18, Crawford 281/1, RBW 1105 and Sydenham 529 (for prototype). Plating broken in spots exposing the bronze core, otherwise, very fine.

From the Joseph Markowitz Collection (1897-1981), brought to Israel in 1949 and kept in the family ever since.
